Welcome To Northern Kung Fu Systems of

Northern Kung Fu systems has been a part of
Lubbock,
TX since 1986. Our school teaches the ancient martial art of Chinese kung fu. In particular, the school specializes in
Northern Shaolin and Northern Praying Mantis.
Northern Shaolin is believed to be the original or root system of all branches of kung fu styles. Shaolin Kung Fu dates back to 540 A.D. as a means of exercise and defense for the monks of the
Shaolin
Temple in
China. The monks needed a form of exercise to keep their bodies healthy from days of meditation and fasting. The monks also needed a form of defense to protect their home, the temple, from raiders which led to the development of the fighting system.
Northern Shaolin Kung Fu is characterized by large, circular, flowing movements and high flying kicks.
Northern Praying Mantis was developed by a Shaolin monk named Wang Lang. This system is characterized by the way it mimics the movements of the praying mantis. The fighting system employs short, quick, powerful strikes and grappling techniques.
